Talk about running with your dog. Khemjira Klongsanun, from Bangkok, Thailand took this activity to new heights when she “adopted” a dog during a marathon!
Though she enjoys racing in competitions, Klongsanun knows some things are more important than setting a record time.
Recently the Thai running enthusiast was competing in a marathon in her area. After completing around 7 miles of the race, she noticed an abandoned puppy by the side of the road.
Klongsanun’s compassion overrode her competition. She stopped and picked up the puppy and then went the second mile. Or the second 19 miles in this case. Klongsanun picked up the pup and carried her through the rest of the race!
She could have passed the canine “baton” on to a race official or a spectator, but she carried on. The pup and her crossed the finish line together.
Here’s what it looked like as they ran:
But Klongsanun went even further. She named the pup, Nong Chom, and introduced her to her other dogs. She took her to the vet to ensure she was healthy.
As she’d been doing all along, Klongsanun did the right thing. She went back to the spot where she found Nong Chom, just in case. She was unable to find anyone connected to the pup. So, Nong Chom, found a new home! She was adopted into Klongsanun’s family.Amazing rescue story, that Klongsanun will remember all her life. Along the way she also picked up a new running partner!
